The search for evidence of Noah’s Ark may have just entered one of its most significant phases yet.
Researchers investigating the mysterious Durupınar Formation in eastern Turkey say multiple pieces of wood recovered from the site have now been sent to a laboratory for carbon-14 dating, according to a new update from Noah’s Ark Scans.
The organization attributed the development to Dr. Cenker Atila, who directs archaeological research at the site.
According to Noah’s Ark Scans, the recovered wood is damaged and charred. They believe the charring could have resulted from a fire at some point in the site’s history or from volcanic activity in the region. However, they have not yet established either possibility.
Importantly, Atila is not declaring that Noah’s Ark has been discovered.
While the depth at which the material was recovered suggests it could be very old, researchers are waiting for the carbon-14 results before drawing conclusions about its age or connection to the biblical Ark.
As Charisma previously reported, researchers have been awaiting laboratory analysis of material recovered during the latest investigation of Durupınar. Andrew Jones, founder of Noah’s Ark Scans, previously said the team had drilled more than a dozen locations inside the formation without encountering the continuous bedrock that some geological explanations would predict.
Instead, researchers recovered soil and organic material for testing.
