A mysterious boat-shaped mound high in the mountains of Turkey could finally yield its secrets after researchers were granted permission for a massive excavation. Explorers are convinced the Durupinar Formation, located in eastern Turkey, is the final resting place of Noah’s Ark.

The team behind Noah’s Ark Scans has now secured official government permits to launch the most advanced scientific hunt in history at the site near Mount Ararat. The high-tech expedition will use non-destructive core drilling, subsurface imaging and a specialised underground drone named “Gopher” to map the subterranean anomalies.

The team hopes the upcoming search will provide the world with “irrefutable proof” that the Bible’s most famous ship has been found.
