The United States has been hit by seven earthquakes on the same day.

Several earthquakes have been hitting the United States in recent weeks, with California getting a big one that sparked a tsunami warning last week, and Alaska getting one over the weekend. Now, multiple U.S. states have been with multiple earthquakes on the same day.

The Mid-South, including Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky, were hit by seven earthquakes on the same day. Thankfully, they were all relatively minor in scope – the strongest being about a 3.0 on the Richter Scale – but it’s still pretty wild to hear about it. “This is normal seismicity,” Dr. Kent Moran of the University of Memphis Center for Earthquake Research and Information said. “It just comes in bursts on occasion.”

He added: “We (are) here at the Earthquake Center to help educate the public, educate the emergency services (on how) to be prepared for such events big or small.” Earlier this year, a sizable earthquake hit New York City, striking fear among residents.

Now, months later, several states in the Mid-South region of the United States have been hit with seven earthquakes in the same day.

Memphis lies adjacent to the New Madrid Fault Line, an area that includes Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois.

Seven earthquakes shook the area in a nine-hour span.

“We’ve seen over the past few days; one was a magnitude seven off the coast of Oregon and California,” Dr. Moran said. “We’ve had a spate of smaller earthquakes here of magnitudes below two and the biggest of the four was a magnitude three.” The earthquakes reportedly all developed from the New Madrid Fault Line region in Missouri.
