On Wednesday 4th, October, a national emergency alert was sent out at 2:20 in the morning (EST). It was a test run by FEMA and the FCC, and it was the third of its kind in the US.
It was a standard test, and the law says it has to happen every three years. But if you were on the internet, you may have seen a bunch of conspiracy theories about it.
People said it was going to activate the nanoparticles in people’s bodies from the COVID vaccine, and that it would lead to a zombie apocalypse. I don’t think that’s true, but it’s important to be aware of how easy it is for people to spread false rumors to get clicks.
It’s kind of scary to think that everyone in the country is getting the same warning at the same time. It kind of reinforces the idea that we’re becoming more and more in control of our lives in this country when so much information can be shared in such a short amount of time.
