Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson was spotted at the White House with Donald Trump after warning the US was heading towards a world war.
The former Fox News host was spotted with guests in the East Room of the White House while Trump spoke during an event with oil executives.
Carlson arrived at the White House earlier on Friday for lunch and decided to stick around for the conference, according to the Associated Press. It is unclear if Carlson met with Trump or Vice President JD Vance at the lunch.
The Daily Mail reached out to Carlson for comment.
As Trump entered the East Room, Carlson could be gleefully clapping as the President walked past him.
Throughout the event, Carlson lingered in the background with guests as Trump outlined his administration’s strategy to secure $100 billion for Venezuelan oil production.
The sighting of Carlson may come as a surprise after the conservative media powerhouse warned the nation is heading to a global war following the US capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.
‘All the signs suggest we are going to have a big war soon – a big war soon. I think everyone expects that to happen,’ Carlson told his followers in a video released on Thursday. ‘I hope it doesn’t happen. But obviously we’re moving in that direction – towards a world war.’
Unlike other conservative influencers, Carlson is an out-spoken non-interventionist and has both privately and publicly advised the president against engaging in wars abroad, including in Ukraine and Iran.
Since the capture of Maduro, Trump has repeatedly claimed Venezuela’s massive oil reserve as justification for the military operation.
The President said during Friday’s conference that American oil companies, including Chevron, would spend billions ‘of their money, not the government’s money’ to reform the South American country’s oil infrastructure.
Despite being at odds with Trump’s foreign policy agenda, Carlson’s appearance at Friday’s press conference suggests the White House still embraces the conservative commentator.
In November, the President defended Carlson by noting he had defended him over the years.
While many right-wing accounts reacted positively to Carlson’s appearance, others were not pleased.
Laura Loomer, a pro-Israel conservative influencer and advisor to Trump, said Carlson’s presence ‘totally disappointing’ and ‘disgusting.’
‘Why is Tucker Carlson at the White House for the oil executive meeting with President Trump?’ Loomer wrote on X. ‘I thought Tucker said he opposed the capture of Maduro? What a total fraud. Also, why would the Trump White House allow for this Jew hater and Islamic mouthpiece to enter the WH?’
Carlson’s unexpected White House appearance fuels speculation about potential media or advisory roles he might have as Trump moves forward with his push into Venezuela.
