US President Donald Trump says the yet-to-be-filled Board of Peace overseeing the management of Gaza for the next two years will include the heads of many major countries
“I hope your highness will be on the board,” Trump says to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a dinner the president is hosting for him at the White House.
“Everybody wants to be on the board, and it’ll end up being quite a large board because it’ll be the heads of every major country,” Trump says, a day after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution giving the US-led Board of Peace a broad mandate to manage Gaza until the end of 2027.
Trump thanks MBS for the role he played in securing last month’s Gaza ceasefire, without elaborating.
“While it looks a little bit messy… [Gaza] is getting very close to being perfected,” Trump says.
He touts the return of the hostages as part of his deal to end the war, but incorrectly states Hamas has two bodies left to return, when the figure is three.
“A lot of work has been done by Hamas, and a lot of a lot of people said they wouldn’t be doing that,” Trump says.
“We also want to thank all of the people living in Gaza… They’ve begun to move back to their homes… [They have] a lot more safety than they’ve ever had before,” Trump claims.
The vast majority of Gaza is in ruins and a large portion of the population of roughly two million is living in tents.
