The President of the United States observes a recent shift in sentiment, as Iranians exhibit ‘diminished enthusiasm’; the defense minister of the Islamic Republic warns of potential threats to US military installations in the area should a conflict emerge.
US President Donald Trump expressed diminished confidence that Iran would consent to halt uranium enrichment in a nuclear agreement with Washington, as stated in an interview released on Wednesday.
“I don’t know,” Trump remarked during the “Pod Force One” podcast on Monday when questioned about his belief in the possibility of persuading Iran to cease its nuclear program. “I don’t know. I previously thought so, and I am becoming increasingly — less confident about it.”
These comments were made in advance of a scheduled sixth round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Trump has been pursuing a new nuclear agreement aimed at imposing restrictions on Iran’s nuclear endeavors and has warned Tehran of potential bombing if an accord is not achieved.
On Monday, he informed reporters at the White House that he had conferred with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Iran and characterized the discussions with the Iranians as “tough.” Israel insists that any agreement must encompass the total cessation of Iranian uranium enrichment.
