As Donald Trump is due to arrive in Rome for the Pope’s funeral on Saturday, his loyal MAGA fans are now weighing in on the next Pope with many wanting a similar style to the US president

MAGA nuts are clamouring for a hardline Donald Trump-style pope.

Strict US catholics want to revive the more traditional Christian values of previous religious leaders.

They didn’t like the cuddly policies of Pope Francis and have launched an aggressive campaign to elect an old school pontiff.

Those backing a so-called ‘Dontiff” want him to take a right wing stance on LGBTQ rights and abortions.

Podcaster Jesse Romero said the time has come for a “Trump-like pope”.

He said: “Anyone who’s soft on abortion, who has Marxist tendencies, who’s pro-homosexual — we’ve got to get rid of them.

“There are bishops who have marched on Pride parades, they’ve got to be fired.”

Roger Stone, a catholic and longtime ally of President Donald Trump, sparked outrage after saying of Pope Francis: “His teachings regularly violated both the bible and church dogma.

“I rather think it’s warm where he is right now.”

But professor Steven Millies, of the Catholic Theologian Union, said the group of MAGA cranks isn’t actually that big and they are only powerful because they have raised millions of pounds.

He added: “Their noisiness is out of proportion with their number.”
