Iran’s drone strike on Israel has escalated World War 3 fears as world peace is ‘hanging by a thread’, an expert has claimed.
Iran launched about 300 missiles and drones on Saturday night (April 13) following a attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, earlier this month. At around lunchtime today (Sunday, April 14) Israel then targeted a building in east Lebanon in what appeared to be a revenge strike. It comes after officials promised a response the night before.
Professor Anthony Glees of the University of Buckingham has now warned a much larger conflict could be on the cards as the two nations’ allies may be forced to get involved. “I [previously] said the peace of the world was hanging on a thread,” he told the Daily Star.
“Today that thread is getting desperately close to breaking and plunging us into World War Three.
“[Joe] Biden may order a strike against the Iranian airbases from which the drones were launched,” he continued. “That could end the matter for the time being as Iran cannot retaliate against the nuclear might of the US.
“But Russia is watching. Iran supports Russia and [Vladimir] Putin will seek to exploit the situation to obliterate Ukraine if he can.
