The British Army has unveiled a high-tech DragonFire laser that can target enemies at the speed of light.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has released previously classified footage of the powerful military weapon in action.
The video is believed to show a test at the MOD’s Hebrides Range, where the DragonFire laser directed energy weapon (LDEW) system successfully fired a high-power laser at aerial targets for the first time in the UK. While the exact range of DragonFire remains a secret, the MOD has confirmed it’s a line-of-sight weapon that can engage any visible target.
The MOD explained: “DragonFire is an advanced military laser, being developed by Dstl and GB industry.
“The laser-directed energy weapon engages targets at the speed of light, using an intense beam of energy to cut through objects, leading to structural failure.”
