Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that the war with Hamas will continue for many more months, echoing similar comments from Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, the country’s top soldier, adding that he still plans to stay in office after the war ends.
The comments came at a press conference Saturday, shortly after U.S. President Joe Biden said that their overwhelming support from the U.S. and the European Union is waning.
“They’re starting to lose that support by indiscriminate bombing that takes place,” Biden said.
A poll earlier this month showed that 72% of Israelis think Netanyahu should resign. Former U.S. ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk nearly three weeks ago mirrored those feelings.
“His determination to stay in power no matter the cost is a clear and present danger to Israel. He needs to resign … yesterday,” Indyk tweeted.
