Syrian state television reported overnight Thursday that the country’s air defense confronted “enemy targets” in the surroundings of the capital Damascus.
State media later reported that Syria had shot down Israeli missiles that were fired from the Golan Heights towards the area.
The Syrian army said that at around 2:25 a.m., Israel launched an air attack from the direction of the Golan Heights, and that the attack targeted several points in the Damascus area.
The statement said the attack caused damage.
The Syrian opposition claimed that the Israeli strikes were directed against areas where headquarters and military sites belonging to Hezbollah are located.
Early Sunday morning, IDF fighter jets struck terror infrastructure sites in Syria in response to an earlier attack from Syria toward the Golan Heights.
On Saturday night, around 7:15 p.m., sirens were sounded in the Golan Heights region. Two launches were identified from Syria toward Israeli territory that fell in open areas.
