More Than 500 U.S. officials representing 40 government agencies, sent a letter to President Biden, protesting his support of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and demanding that he take action for an immediate ceasefire.

The New York Times reported that over 500 people who are political appointees and staff members of 40 government agencies signed and sent a letter to the US President, in which they protested his support for Israel and the aid the US administration is providing to Israel during the war in Gaza.

“We call on President Biden to urgently demand a cease-fire; and to call for de-escalation of the current conflict by securing the immediate release of the Israeli hostages and arbitrarily detained Palestinians; the restoration of water, fuel, electricity and other basic services; and the passage of adequate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” the letter states.

Sources close to the authors of the letter said that a majority of the signatories are representatives of US government agencies, from the National Security Council to the F.B.I. the Justice Department and more. A poll conducted in October shows that 66% of Americans, including 80% of Democrat voters, believe the US should put pressure on Israel for a cease-fire.
