A strong earthquake shook northwestern Nepal districts on Friday evening, killing at least 69 people and injuring dozens more.
Officials said that the death toll was expected to rise, noting that communications were cut off with many villages.
Reports claimed the tremor was felt in New Delhi, India, more than 500 miles away.
In Jajarkot district, a region of 190,000 people, 34 people were confirmed dead, government administration official Harish Chandra Sharma said.
Early police reports claimed the quake killed at least 30 people and injured more than 40 in neighbouring West Rukum, where numerous houses collapsed.
The quake was initially reported as a magnitude 6.4 but later downgraded to 5.7 by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
