Hurricane Lidia made landfall near Mexico‘s Pacific coast resort of Puerto Vallarta as an ‘extremely dangerous’ Category 4 storm on Tuesday – before moving inland and leaving at least one person dead.
A man was killed in the state of Nayarit when a tree fell on his car.
In just nine and a half hours, Lidia escalated from a Category 1 before crashing down with winds at 140mph.
It came in the wake of a smaller storm, Hurricane Max, which struck the Pacific coast and pounded the states of Guerrero and Michoacan with rain before petering out.
The US National Hurricane Centre said Lidia’s eye appeared to have reached land near Las Penitas in the western state of Jalisco.
